The Scout Group is led by the ‘Group Scout Leader’ and managed by the ‘Group Executive Committee’ (and both are responsible to the ‘Group Council’ for the satisfactory running of the Group). This Group does not presently have a ‘Group Scout Leader’, we succeed by working closely together. Our Leadership Team is made up of the following:
The 1st Hemel Hempstead Scout Group is a charity , all the adults that help make it happen every week for our young people do so voluntary, they do not get any financial rewards and do at times dig into their own pockets. There is very little truth in the rumours that to help in a Scout Group you only have to give up a couple of hours a week. Some can and often do give a lot more, anything from 2 to even 50 hours some weeks.
Subscriptions cover the general running costs of the sections, badges, craft materials, some trips and small equipment costs, approximately 45% of it goes on Personal Accident Insurance for all Members and National and Local Training Levies for Adults in the Movement. Subscriptions cover very little else but we still have to pay our utility bills, our Building and Contents Insurance alone costs almost £1000 per annum. We have no alternative but to fund raise -
continuously - our main fundraiser's are Bag Packing, Quiz Nights and Race Nights, we also get donations by allowing the use of HQ to certain parties whom we feel we can trust. Managing a Scout Group is difficult when you consider there is no guaranteed income so it is important that we get full support when we do our fundraising; it is expected that all young people who join us are prepared to help and willingly give their time when asked.
